How it works
Child-Pugh summarizes severity of hepatic dysfunction for cirrhosis using bilirubin, albumin, INR, ascites, and encephalopathy. MELD/MELD-Na now often supersedes it for transplant listing, but Child-Pugh remains widely taught.
Limits
Subjective ascites and encephalopathy grading, interobserver variability, and unit differences for bilirubin/albumin are not resolved here.
