How it works
MEWS aggregates derangements in respiration, circulation, temperature, and consciousness to flag patients who may be deteriorating before ICU transfer is needed.
Limits
Does not replace diagnosis of sepsis, bleeding, or specific shock types; oxygen saturation is not part of classic MEWS (consider NEWS where SpO₂ is required).
