How it works
What this tool does
It reproduces the widely taught five-domain APGAR sum used for structured communication after birth. It does not replace neonatal resuscitation training, timing rules, or institutional documentation.
Score
Total = Appearance + Pulse + Grimace + Activity + Respiration (each 0–2; maximum 10)

Clinical context
Interpretation (teaching bands)
- Trend between 1- and 5-minute scores and response to intervention often matters more than a single number.
- APGAR correlates poorly with long-term neurologic outcome; do not use it alone as a prognosis tool.
Care reminders
- Follow Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or local equivalent for airway, breathing, and circulation steps.
- Premature infants and medications may alter appearance and tone; document contextual factors.
